Of course that's a serious failure on the font developer's part. Any
change to a font that affects the GIDs, line lengths or glyph shapes
should always incur an increased version number. While making things
robust enough to handle badly-made fonts is not a bad idea, I'm not
sure how far a spec (or implementation) should go to handle such
quirks.
