Dear fellow AHG members,

I am pleased to announce that the "Call for Proposals" [1] and "Requirements and Use cases for Composite Font Standard" [2] have been approved by the ISO SC29/WG11 (MPEG) and are now published.

The AHG has a mandate to evaluate the submissions and prepare a report. The submissions in response to the Call for Proposals (CFP) should be made no later than October 6, 2010. Those who plan to make a submission should consider the following:

1)      Reponses to the Call for Proposals will be reviewed upon submission by this AHG, and are expected to be presented to the general audience at the AHG meeting on Sunday, October 10, 2010 (the day before the start of the next MPEG meeting, which will be held October 11-15, 2010);

2) The next MPEG meeting will be held in Guangzhou, China. Travel to China requires valid Chinese Visa - the meeting organizers will provide an invitation letter for those individuals who need to obtain the visa.

At the last MPEG meeting, the input contribution m17712 on Apple's Spliced Font Format was presented (see attachments to the AHG Report [3]). The representative from Apple indicated that this contribution will be used as the basis for their response to the Call for Proposals. During the AHG exploration activities some AHG members proposed various extensions to Apple's Spliced Font Format. Since the responses to the CFP [1] can address all or any subset of the requirements [2], the members of the AHG and general public may wish to submit the Response to the CFP outlining their proposed extensions to the format described in m17712. Please remember that those responding to the Call for Proposals may be required to contribute a reference source code implementation if the proposed technology is selected as part of the CFS development.

According to the project timeline proposed in the AHG Report [3], the Working Draft of the future Composite Font Standard is expected to be prepared and finalized by the end of the next MPEG meeting.

Thank you,
Vladimir
