Proposed Script tag additions

Thank you, Vlad. I'd like to propose 3 clarifications:

* Add the following note to OS/2 table (Version 0): Apple's specification differs slightly. The last 5 fields in this table are not included in their specification (p. 388)

* Change the OS/2 table description for Code Page Character Range to the following:
32-46   Reserved for OEM ,  47  Permanently Reserved   (p. 65)

* Clarify text in the 'maxp' table. The description for maxFunctionDefs should be: The highest function number + 1 (p. 22).

Also, I'm having trouble finding discussion on this, but at one point someone brought up that the fixed data type is being used in 3 different ways. We should consider clarifying this.

Thanks!
Michelle

I missed the changes suggested for amendment by Behdad earlier through the year, that I forwarded to the AHG list in one of my previous emails:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mpeg-OTspec/message/524. Please consider them as amendment items.

Thank you,
Vladimir

Dear AHG members,

Happy New Year!
With the holiday season behind us, we need to start preparing for the upcoming WG11 meeting and discuss the proposed items for a new amendment of ISO OFF standard.

So far, I have the following items brought for AHG attention in the past few months:

- Addition of the new scripts tags defined in Unicode 5.2 and Unicode 6.0 standards

(http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mpeg-OTspec/message/497)

- Consider whether a Registration Authority should be setup to maintain Layout Tag Registry

(http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mpeg-OTspec/message/500)

- Consider whether creating the ISO text layout specification as a new work item is feasible and desirable

(http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mpeg-OTspec/message/516,

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mpeg-OTspec/message/517 and

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mpeg-OTspec/message/518)

The last two items are not necessarily tied to the proposed amendment and can be considered separately. I would like to once again remind all of you to bring any other items you want to consider for the inclusion in the amendment to the attention of this AHG.

Thank you,
Vladimir

Dear all,

I was reminded that the standards development procedures have recently been changed, which will affect the proposed schedule. Taking into account the new process, the tentative schedule for the amendment would be as follows:

January 24-29, 2011 - Working Draft amendment
March 21-25, 2011 - Proposed Draft amendment and issue combined PDAM / registration ballot (3 months)
July 18-22, 2011 -Draft amendment (5 months ITTF ballot)
Nov. 28 - Dec. 02, 2011 - Study Draft Amendment (if needed, to review and incorporate early comments)
Feb. 6-10, 2012 - Final Draft Amendment (2 month, simple yes/no ballot)
April 2012 - publication

Please remember to submit your proposals for additional items to be considered as part of this amendment no later than early January 2011. However, taking a holiday season into account, I'd suggest to have the discussion started as early as possible, with new suggestions submitted for AHG to review before holidays.

Thank you,
Vladimir

Dear all,

I would like to suggest for your review and consideration the following proposed schedule for a new OFF amendment, which is based on the approved schedule of the WG11 (MPEG) meetings:

January 24-29, 2011 - Working Draft amendment
March 21-25, 2011 - Proposed Draft amendment and issue combined PDAM / registration ballot (3 months)
July 18-22, 2011 - Final Proposed Draft amendment (4 months ballot)
Nov. 28 - Dec. 02, 2011 - Final Draft Amendment (2 month yes/no ballot)
Feb. 6-10, 2012 - publication

Some noteworthy points:

-          An attempt to accelerate the amendment and produce PDAM in January would not change the final outcome - the ballot would not be closed until the end of April, which will push the FPDAM date to July;

-          Starting with the working draft will allows us some time to review the additional proposals (if any) and incorporate them in the current amendment based on consensus;

-          Any proposed new features should be submitted to this AHG list no later than early January to allow sufficient time for discussions. The agreed proposals would have to be submitted to WG11 no later than Jan. 17th;

- We will have a chance to review and improve the Working Draft amendment and improve it before promoting the document to the Committee Draft stage in March.

Please submit your ideas and proposals for new features and/or improvements and clarifications to the spec for AHG consideration.

Thank you and regards,
Vladimir

The most recent versions of Unicode (versions 5.2 and 6.0) have added several new script tags that are missing in the second edition of ISO/IEC 14496-22 "Open Font Format" specification and the corresponding version of the OpenType 1.6. The current list of script tags can be found in the subclause 6.4.1 of 14496-22 and is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otspec160/scripttags.htm.

The newly defined Unicode script tags include the following:
