Solution: you open the word document with OpenOffice

It is up to you to make contributions in plain text. I cannot imagine what MPEG would do if contributions _had to be_ in plain text

For me, something that can be freely read on any platform.
PDF works, as a delivery format.
For input, plain text works on all platforms.
