Hi Sairus, all,

Thank you for providing the additional details and examples, I integrated them as part of the draft input contribution (attached).
All, please review the changes and let me know if there is anything missing or needs changes. We have until tomorrow to finalize this document and submit it to WG11, if I don’t hear anything back from you I will submit the document as it’s currently presented.

Thank you,
Vlad

Vlad,

I just uploaded “2016-05-20 SVG OT Proposals_Adobe.docx” to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mpeg-OTspec/files (in Word format as recommended by ISO). This is the same as the previous version of the document (“2016-04-10 SVG OT Proposals_Adobe.docx”) except that:

– Three more examples are appended (specifying current text color, color palette variables, inline PNGs)

– Item 3 is split up into 3.1, 3.2, & 3.3 (thus, subsequent unchanged items need not be renumbered). 3.1 & 3.2 help strengthen cross-platform consistency by not implying that OT-SVG requirements may keep changing (no one wants their fonts to keep being rendered differently). 3.3 clarifies handling of <text> & <foreignObject>: they are simply to be ignored if encountered, just as any external references or scripting are ignored if encountered.

The above changes will all be helpful to implementers, and are based on feedback I’ve gotten. I hope we can fit them in. Any comments or questions are welcome.

On the www-svg at w3.org<mailto:www-svg at w3.org> list, I requested a few clarifications to the SVG Integration document as well, a couple of hours ago. https://lists.w3.org looks like it’s down right now, or I’d have provided a link to that message (subject: “Proposed clarifications to the "SVG Integration" doc”).

Best,
Sairus

Vlad,

1.
I’d like to submit a ballot comment indicating a desire to clarify the SVG 2–related aspects of the SVG table spec (e.g. context-fill & color palette variables), & to provide examples thereof in the OFF spec itself, since SVG 2 is in “Working Draft” stage. Also, the relationship of OFF’s SVG table to the W3C’s SVG Integration spec needs to be studied some more, since some data is duplicated in both specs, & each spec has important information not present in the other spec. Some minor refactoring may be in order.

I’ve received feedback, including some notes of concern, on some of the areas of the spec mentioned above. Taking the time to clarify these would result in a more implementable spec, which can only be good for the OFF/OT ecosystem (font tool creators, font designers, font engines in apps & OSes, & so on).

Let me know if there’s anything else you need to consider this ballot comment.

2.
Note that several aspects of the proposals I submitted earlier in this thread – e.g. what SVG’s version attribute means – were discussed on the www-svg at w3.org<mailto:www-svg at w3.org> & public-svgopentype at w3.org<mailto:public-svgopentype at w3.org> lists (public archives are available).

Thanks,
Sairus

Thank you Sairus for submitting the proposed changes for the AHG review.

All, please review the suggested new language and respond to this list with your comments. Most of the proposed changes attempt to clarify the role of the rendering engine and by doing so make certain implied actions normative. I don’t see any significant changes in specified font rendering behavior between the current and newly proposed language of the spec but because it does directly affects the rendering implementations I’d like to ask all interested parties to review and approve the proposal.

We don’t have too much time left to discuss the changes *if* we intend to submit them as part of the ballot comments due on April 27. One possible option (if more time for discussion is necessary) is to submit a ballot comment providing a general description of the desired changes and accompany it by a separate input document prepared for consideration at the next MPEG meeting. This way, we would be able to extend the absolute deadline from Apr. 27 to May 24th when the input contributions are due (which gives us almost 4 more weeks to discuss the details and agree on the specific language if there are any objections), and the next meeting will be held on May 30 – June 3rd.

Thank you,
Vladimir

Vlad,

As promised, here are a few proposed clarifications to the SVG table spec, based on feedback received, and also some illustrative – & illustrated – examples.

Please see “2016-04-10 SVG OT Proposals_Adobe.docx” at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mpeg-OTspec/files (in Word format as recommended by ISO).

Some of the feedback discussion is still in process & unresolved (including this spec’s relationship to W3’s SVG Integration document), so there may be additional items in the coming weeks, but this is a good start for now.

Best,
Sairus
