I agree with this assessment (which may surprise some given my earlier 
involvement in SVG and in SVG-in-OT). Given the great utility and rapid 
uptake of variable fonts, any glyph technology which does not support 
variations, or cannot be readily made to support variations, is 
effectively just legacy.

That left me in a "neither A nor B is good enough" situation when 
comparing the expressive power of SVG-in-OT and COLRv0.

With COLRv1, I now regard that as the sole viable format for chromatic 
fonts and thus, SVG-in-OT (and the various pixel-based color formats) 
are purely legacy.
