 FWIW, I am weakly opposed to web-site based discussions. I don't monitor any/most web pages/forums, even if I visit them from time to time.
Also, e-mails are distributed in nature (everybody has a copy; you delete yours, I still have mine), web-site discussions, you are relying on the hosting company staying in business/online. Although the chance of github going bankrupt is very small, and its being unavailable and offline for extended period is also quite low.
