Well, that is one way of looking at it. Another way is that I have the
opportunity to put forward my idea in a mailing list where experts in
OpenType may possibly read about my idea and decide that it has merit
and become enthusiastic about implementing it and apply their knowledge
of OpenType to make the idea work and go forward with the idea and the
idea become implemented and applied.

There is some truth in that, and it may work and lead to progress.

Back in the 1970s I knew very little about teletext technology but I put
forward the idea of broadcasting software on teletext pages and having a
microprocessor in a television set and that producing local
interactivity. I coined a new word, telesoftware, for my invention. I
wrote a Letter to the Editor of a trade newspaper, it was published. One
thing led to another, and another and so on. As a result I was invited
to be a joint author of a paper for the 1978 International Broadcasting
Convention where I was able to use a working demonstration of my
invention, that had been made by Mullard Linited, running software
broadcast on ITV Oracle teletext. The word telesoftware is now in The
Oxford English Dictionary, where my name appears in print in the section
on the etymology of the word telesoftware where that 1976 Letter to the
Editor is referenced.
