group discussions (in which you were also included as one of many recipients). The reality is, as one of your colleagues pointed out, is that the same fonts that are going to be used for display purposes will also need to be used e.g. for printing; even though
the animation capabilities may not be applicable in printing applications or for document formats that are geared towards presentation of documents for distributed printing such as PDF, it does not and should not disqualify these applications from consideration
by the OFF – there is nothing that would conceptually preclude color fonts including emoji and creative titling from being reproduced as part of the printed content (where printers’ capabilities in general are always much more limited than other devices).
Also, some display devices such as Digital TV set-top boxes have very limited processing / rendering power but can also run subtitling / messaging applications and implement other functionality where the use of color fonts could be a benefit.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D">In addition to emoji and titling, there have also been other use cases identified, e.g. using color fonts to encode special purpose color symbols that are
in wide use in many consumer electronic devices such as white goods and automotive applications. It is generally a good thing to make sure that a new functionality can be implemented on a wide variety of platforms and devices – something that has been traditionally
considered a necessity for font rendering. Our intent is to make sure that the newly standardized technology does not discriminate against certain classes of devices and can be as widely supported as possible, hence the requirement for low implementation complexity
– not all devices /platforms / applications are as capable and resource-consuming as e.g. web browsers are.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
