a) Does this imply that OFF fonts MUST NOT have .ttf extension? I was
unaware of that.

b) I would like to re-visit the issue raised earlier (5 April) by Sairus
Patel regarding the definition of "compliance with ISO OFF". In
particular, unless ISO 14496-22 specifically prohibits a font from
including of any sfnt table tags other than those listed within the spec
(and I don't think it does, but maybe I'm wrong), then one cannot say
that, for example, a font is not compliant just because it contains AAT
or Graphite tables.

Now if we want to define "application/font-off" as being constrained to
OFF fonts that contain only those sfnt table tags as defined in the
spec, then we can certainly do that -- we just cannot couch that
constraint simply in terms of "compliance" with the spec. For example,
we could say something like:

- application/font-off -- to be used as a generic font type that
identifies a font resource compliant with ISO OFF / OpenType format and
which contains only sfnt tables documented by the OFF specification
