[mpeg-OTspec] Conflicts between language system tags

In addition to what was already mentioned [about the precedent for encoding additional information in the forth character of OpenType tag and using numerals to differentiate similar tags] I would hope that we won't have a need to use ascending order numbers in the future - as we try to reconcile ISO language tags with both the existing and new OFF/OpenType language we will gradually transition to using ISO tags and will use tag+'0' notation only to resolve existing conflicts. So, I'd prefer to keep the proposed notation tag+'0' to at least not introduce another way of encoding tags and even more confusion as a result.

Thank you,
Vladimir

I don't have a problem with this myself. But would there possibly need to be versioning for these types of language tags as well in the future? If so, would '0KAB' be better to keep the distinction between the two languages and have versioning too, such as '1KAB', '2KAB', ... ? Otherwise you could have problems distinguishing between versions of the two languages assigned to 'KAB ' and 'KAB0'.

Sorting and parsing are nice. But ultimately the most important function of these tags is identification and distinction between languages and their versions for the purposes of OpenType fonts.
