It's been mentioned on several different fora over the years.  I suspect
that I first read about it on the fontforge lists.

These look like a reasonable discussion:



The first page above says that DSIG is only a flag for glyf fonts; cff
always get the otf treatment.

You'll note a familiar name in the replies on the latter page.
