AHG Kick-off and things to do

Dear all,

The renewed AHG mandate from the last MPEG meeting (held last week) is as follows:
1. To study the text of the ISO/IEC 14496-22:2019/PDAM1 and submitted ballot comments.
2. To evaluate the feature set for vertical layout, discuss implementation details, and proposed changes and clarifications to ensure compatibility between different implementations.

As a recap, as a result of many discussions (going all the way back to early 2017), a weakness was identified in 'vert' layout feature<https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mpeg-OTspec/conversations/messages/1568>, and a proposal was submitted<https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mpeg-OTspec/conversations/messages/1692> to update the description of the feature to support new functionality. This update, however, created a backward incompatibility with widely deployed solutions<https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mpeg-OTspec/conversations/messages/1708>, and also highlighted the fact that description of the feature may need to be updated to benefit the implementers.

The next MPEG (ISO/IEC SC29/WG11) meeting will be held in July 2019 (on July 8-12), and we have time until July 1st to discuss ballot comments related to the description of 'vert' feature, and to submit any additional input contributions (if necessary) to clarify its functionality and implementation details. Three months may seem like a long time but it will fly quickly, so I suggest we should get to it and finalize this two-year-long effort.

Thank you,
Vladimir
