Dear all,

Thank you for your active participation at today's meeting. Please see
below the quick summary of the discussions added to each item of the
agenda, and suggested next steps.

1. Review updated
Feature Variations proposal (
https://github.com/adobe-type-tools/opentype-spec-drafts/blob/main/newfeatvar_spec.pdf
)
- editorial: more work is needed to bring back some of the explanatory
language from the original proposal and examples;
- for the next round of discussion: clarify performance impact / benefits.
Condition negation (
https://github.com/adobe-type-tools/opentype-spec-drafts/blob/main/negation.pdf
)
- tentatively accepted, needs clarification of condition set negations and
its relationship with the FeatureVariation.LookupCondition record, and
whether adding flags to conditions would be useful/necessary.
2. New proposals:
CFF2 hint requirements in variable fonts (
https://github.com/adobe-type-tools/opentype-spec-drafts/blob/main/cff2hintorder.pdf
)
- would benefit from editorial work to add clarifications and normative
language where necessary.
VARC CFF2 hint guidance proposal (
https://github.com/adobe-type-tools/opentype-spec-drafts/blob/main/varchintguide.pdf
)
- positive reaction overall, more editorial work is needed.
3. Review new 'dmap' table proposal (see
https://github.com/harfbuzz/boring-expansion-spec/blob/main/iso_docs/WG03-dmap-2024-01.pdf
)
- more work is needed. We will continue the discussion (both offline /
email list and at the next meeting to determine possible outcomes and next
steps.
4. Follow-up changes ('LTSH', 'hdmx', 'VARC" updates (
https://github.com/harfbuzz/boring-expansion-spec/blob/main/iso_docs/WG03-varc-and-other-updates.pdf
)
- hdmx / LTSH: questions of reasoning behind proposed "wide glyph ID"
updates and whether we should consider deprecating them instead;
- JSTF: proposed updates are accepted in principle with additional edits
needed to update ExtenderGlyph2 table data types. (General questions about
the use of JSTF table have been raised - may need further investigation.)
- FVAR updates in support of HOI need separate discussion, before the
agreement on the proposed / alternate approach can be reached.
5. New 'sbix' flags (
https://lists.aau.at/pipermail/mpeg-otspec/2024-February/003280.html)
- not much interest, do nothing at this time.

We will have our next Zoom meeting scheduled on March 19 at the same time
(15:00 UTC) where we will discuss updated proposals. The preliminary agenda
should be finalized by March 5 - please send your proposals of any new /
additional items to the AHG email list.

Thank you,
Vladimir
