Microsoft has just published version 1.8.1 of the OpenType spec. (Vlad was aware this was coming.) The primary purpose of this minor release was for refinements related to Font Variations, but there were a small number of other technical refinements made. I had also gotten requests to make some changes in the data types used, and so I used this opportunity to apply a set of global changes to have some consistent conventions for data types, replacing the size-ambiguous SHORT, etc. types with size-explicit types. Because of the data type changes, this will probably be one of the broadest changes to the OT spec, in terms of the number of pages touched, for a long time.

The CFF2 and CFF2 CharString chapters underwent the most extensive revision. Documents m40023 and m40024 that Vlad mentions below reflect the OT 1.8.1 revisions for CFF2 and CFF2 CharString. I hope to see the remaining OT 1.8.1 changes incorporated into the next WD for the OFF 4th edition.

Thank you all for your help with reviewing the ISO/IEC 14496-22 Working Draft (4th edition) and your comments. Please see attached for your review the draft AHG report summarizing the discussions we had to date, the proposed changes and corrections (submitted as a summary input contribution m39796), and updates to the CFF2 table and CFF2 CharString format description (submitted as input contributions m40023 and m40024).
