[MPEG-OTSPEC] Request for OFF Github Repo

Thank you Elika! It would make perfect sense to do so … but with a caveat. First, you (W3C) are in control of your own email lists and the probability of email lists outlasting GitHub, or being there when other resources are blocked, is quite high. Second, you are at liberty to create your own special purpose lists as much as you like and as is necessary, so you have created a list that serves as archive and isn’t used for anything else.

Neither of those conditions are true for this AHG, and an attempt to subscribe our one and only discussion forum list to GitHub repo would flood it with unnecessarily duplicated content. Considering the fact that the AHG email list is only active for as long as the hosting provider is active (we already outlived one hosting provider and are lucky to have been able to preserve our email archives) and for as long as this AHG is re-established by its parent ISO WG (which happens at every WG meeting, 3-4 times a year) – I’d consider the email list to be in a long-term transient state, a resource we should use wisely.

Thanks,
Vlad

I wanted to note, the CSSWG has subscribed a mailing list to its GH repo, and
thereby keeps a copy of every comment on W3C servers:
https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-css-archive/<https://protect-us.mimecast.com/s/T5w9C82xAMh6VWzAHo82mA>

The purpose of this is to ensure that the input discussions of CSS specs are
archived and accessible to the public, even if GitHub is discontinued in the
future--or blocked in e.g. China. (W3C mailing lists have outlasted many an
internet service.)

You may want to consider a similar setup for your GH repo.
